Sunday Runday #75

It’s been a couple weeks since checking in for Sunday Runday, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been running.

Last weekend I had an amazing long run while vacationing in the Okanagan with my family. I headed out first thing in the morning and battled the hills and the heat for 8km and finished it off with another 8km on the treadmill in the air conditioning. I was dreading getting started, I’d have much rather sit on the balcony with a coffee and my book with my family, but once I got going I felt great. It was one of my best runs of this training cycle.

Fast forward to this weekend. I popped out of bed excited to lace up my shoes and hit the trails. That excitement dissipated very quickly when I realized I was riding the struggle bus. Everything felt heavy and my hips were aching after just a couple km’s. I hate to admit that it took me nearly an hour to make it only 6km before I decided to turn around. There was a very large part of me that wanted to call someone to come and pick me up and save me from running 6km back home. I have one more long run before I start cutting back on distance leading up to SeaWheeze and I’m hoping it goes a lot better than this last one.

Did you get out to run today?

If you’re new to Sunday Runday, it’s a weekly running date for anyone and everyone to join. It doesn’t matter the distance, the time if you’re brand new or a seasoned marathoner, heck you don’t even need to run. Walk, jog, run, spin, lift, bend, move. The point is just to have fun and motivate each other to get on our feet. Get out there snap a pic, and send me your mini recap to becky at thebexfactor dot com before 7pm MST every single Sunday to be featured in this post. Or, post to social media and share the link below. If you’re a fellow blogger, grab the banner and join the link-up with your favourite run chat from the week!

Sunday Runday #74

Another Sunday is coming to a close which means another week closer to SeaWheeze. Monday’s easy run was absolutely brutal. My body was still tired from the previous weekend’s activities, so after riding the struggle bus, I gave up and walked. Wednesday was speed day and the intervals jumped from 30 seconds of work to 1 minute of work with 2 minutes walk break. Let me tell you, 1 minute is much, much longer than 30 seconds but I managed to stay consistent in the 4:30 min/km range for three rounds.

Yesterday was long run day, which I incorporated into a local race. I’ll have a full recap to come later in the week. I ran about 1.25km to the race start since it was so close to my house and then completed the 10k. I originally planned to keep it slow and steady like the rest of my long runs lately, but Shannon challenged me to push a little harder. We ran 10-1 intervals for an average pace of 7:36min/km.

This definitely has me thinking that I should continue running 10-1 intervals for my long runs and for SeaWheeze so I don’t end up burning out.

Me dying while I sprint to the finish, while Shannon looks perfect lol.

From Mary:

It was a beautiful day for a run! I’ve never trained for a half marathon before… I’ve got to say, I’m enjoying the long runs way more than I thought. Today had its sights set on 13 k-  and hitting that on my watch was a pretttaay great feeling!

(Mary is seriously crushing her half training. Related: I miss running with her on a regular basis!)

Sunday Runday #73

Week 5 of SeaWheeze training is in the books! Monday was a 35 minute easy run and it was deceivingly hotter out than it appeared for a lunch time run with Jessica. Wednesday I was flying solo for intervals at lunch, 6 times 30 second all out, 1 minute walk. I ate those intervals UP let me tell you. While I don’t see any improvement in speed here, I definitely am not feeling as barfy, which I take as a win.

Yesterday was the only time I could fit in a long run and I was not excited to do so since it was absolutely miserable pouring rain in the morning. I texted Cassandra, who was going to watch Liam, that I was going to bail. She offered the use of her treadmill instead and said “no excuses.” Well, the only thing worse than running 11km in the pouring rain is running 11km on a treadmill so off I went. I ended up doing closer to 12km at an average pace of 8 minutes/km.

Today, instead of running I spent all day in class becoming certified as a Pound Pro! I’m exhausted and overwhelmed but left that course inspired. I can’t wait to learn some choreography and cueing and teach my first class before the end of summer!
