Eight Months

Yesterday afternoon Layne took Liam to visit with some of his family that were in town for a funeral. I always get a little bummed when I have baby free time because I just love hanging out with that little guy so much. But I blitzed around doing some much needed cleaning and then had a really great visit with an old friend that was in town from Ontario. When Liam came home he was all hugs and snuggles for me and it just melted my heart (and may have brought a tear to my eye!). Then I headed to Lindsey’s gender reveal party! I’m so excited for her and her husband and their baby GIRL! Yeah, Liam has a new little girlfriend brewing. All of my friends this year have had girls which is super exciting because I get to buy all the adorable girly things. It seems everyone I knew having kids last year had boys, and everyone this year is having girls. Maybe next year it will be back to boys again.

On Friday Liam turned 8 months old! What a month it’s been. I feel like I no longer have a baby anymore because Liam is looking so much like a little man. I’m going to have a toddler before I know it. The days are getting so fun now, especially since I’m not constantly hooked up to the pump and can have more freedom. Weight: He hasn’t been weighed since he was six months, but I estimate him to be around 22-24lbs. Our bucket seat is only good until 22lbs so the convertible car seat has been purchased. I’m just not ready to have it installed yet. Having the bucket seat is so convenient for nap times and I’m really nervous for what will happen when nap time hits when we can’t be at home.

Length: Also hasn’t been measured since six months but this kid is TALL. I carry him around and feel like I’m carrying a two year old. He’s going to be taller than me in no time.

Clothes: He’s exclusively in 12 month sizes now. Pants are difficult because of his big fluffy cloth diaper butt, so he sometimes looks like a hoodlum with his too big of pants but that’s ok. We are still trying to find a baseball hat for him. I want one that doesn’t look babyish, but can’t find any small enough anywhere. Feedings: He is still taking 5 bottles a day, approximately 5 or 6oz a bottle. Unfortunately this little monkey doesn’t like to be held anymore so we usually lie him on the floor for his bottle. Before bed we just lie him in his crib with it and he will toss it when he’s done and falls right asleep. Same with the middle of the night. No matter what he will just squirm and claw your face. I’ve even tried giving him something to play with while I give him his bottle but it doesn’t work. This makes me sad that I don’t get those minutes of cuddle time while he eats! As for real food, he gobbles up his fruit and oatmeal super quick in the morning. Lunch and dinner we mix purees and baby led weaning, depending on what I have on hand. He prefers to feed himself so I like to give him chunks of leftovers, fruit, veggies, pickles, etc. This gets really messy, I have to sweep the floors daily and am usually always covered in whatever he’s been eating. It’s fun though. I love giving him new things and watching his reaction. On Father’s Day we gave him a piece of bison bacon and he went nuts over it! Sleep: Liam went through a short phase of sleeping through the night which was AWESOME, but then he started waking up again. I’m really hoping the sleeping through the night phase comes back (and stays back!). He still usually takes three one-hour long naps during the day although he will sometimes randomly nap longer or fight his afternoon nap. I’m hoping now that the bucket seat is gone he will wean himself to two naps a day. Teeth: He got THREE new teeth this month for a total of five! I thought he was working on the top two and then randomly a bottom one popped up first. Then the top ones came a week or so later. He’s STILL rubbing things on his gums like crazy so I wonder if there are more right behind.

Personality: He is short tempered just like his mama (oops). He gets really frustrated when he can’t do something or have something and will cry when I tell him no or take something away. He is still Mr. Serious when we are out and about or around new people. But once he’s had some time to warm up to new people or places, he’s back to his happy, chatty, goofy self. He giggles at everything now and still likes to ham it up for us.

Milestones: He’s still only rolling, no crawling yet.

Likes: animals, bouncing, standing, his giant teddy bear (and stuffed animals in general), peek-a-boo, making noise, kicking EVERYTHING

Dislikes: not being able to get things in front of him, being held, new things

Mamas, any tips on transitioning from bucket seat to regular car seat?

Father’s Day Weekend Recap

It was another busy weekend for us over here! It all started with Friday’s series of unfortunate events. I had planned to head down to Food Truck Friday early, I mean leaving the house by 10:30 early, because the new truck Chedda Heads was opening and I knew it would be busy. Well, Layne had installed the new car seat Thursday night and I was having trouble adjusting the straps on it. 45 minutes and a ton of swearing later, I finally made it down to a very busy event. Some people had already been waiting an hour for their gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches! Alix arrived just as I was and we were hesitant to try in line but the only other option was fries. Alix stood in line while I got us coffees but when the line barely moved, we decided to go for fries. Once we had our fries and coffees in hand, trying to find a place to sit, the sky opened up and started pouring. Now we were struggling to keep babes dry and fries from getting soggy. We ended up just coming back to my place but of course the rain quit by the time we got there. Ridiculous.

Saturday we had much better luck getting some grilled cheese. It was  a bit of a wait, but it was tasty! I look forward to trying some more sandwiches. I ran into Amie coming to check out Chedda Heads also!
(sorry for the creeper photo)

Baby Bear loves his Cool Beans coffee

After devouring some food, drinking some coffee and wandering around the market for a few hours, we headed to the park next door to see my mom who was participating in an outdoor art festival. It was super windy and chilly though so we didn’t stick around too long. I took my parents dog back to the house with us and we curled up with a big mug of tea watching Homeland while Liam napped.

Has anyone else watched Homeland? I finished Season 1 yesterday and I’m already antsy for Season 2. I’m not usually very good with political shows, I just don’t understand  a lot of that stuff and have a hard time following along, but this was really good. I highly recommend watching it on (Canadian) Netflix.

After my parents were done taking down the art display, we were going to go for dinner. Of course it was a Saturday night right at 6 though and every where we tried had an hour long wait. Since it was too close to Liam’s bed time to risk waiting that long, we decided to just come back to my place and order Chinese. It was also an hour wait for delivery but at least I could put Liam to bed. Layne ended up getting called into work so I watched more Homeland, haha.

Sunday Liam woke up at 6am despite being up an hour past his bed time. I was excited for Layne to get up so I could cook him a Father’s Day breakfast and give him his gift. The stinker slept in until 11:30 though so I was quite bored by then. Liam and I had already made a teepee fort, gone and got coffee for Layne from Starbucks, napped (while I finished the Homeland finale), etc. I finally just started cooking and opened the bedroom door to let the bacon smell waft in and wake him up. If I hadn’t, we wouldn’t have had time for the rest of the days activities.

Layne really enjoyed his bacon and eggs breakfast and the bottle of whiskey scented beard oil I ordered for him off Etsy. After Liam had his mid-day nap, we headed off to the pool! It was our first time taking Liam swimming. He was a little unsure at first, but once he got used to it he had a BLAST. It was so adorable watching him kick and splash and giggle.

We thought he would have been just wiped by the time we got home but he fought his nap so we headed over to our friends house for a Father’s Day BBQ. I got stuck on kid duty while the men/dads cooked.

Cousins
Aren’t they the cutest?

It was well past Liam’s bed time by the time we got home and I was completely wiped as well. I had hoped for a bit of a sleep in this morning but had no such luck. I have another busy day today with some coffee dates and Lindsey’s gender reveal party plus I hope I can squeeze in a run since I missed #sundayrunday yesterday.

How was everyone’s Father’s Day?
Anyone else watch Homeland?

Fitness Friday

It seems I have good weeks and bad weeks when it comes to getting to Crossfit. This was a bad week.

Monday
Liam was sleeping when it was time to go to the Mama’s class. Since we had a super busy weekend and his schedule was all thrown off, I wanted to make sure he got a good sleep and didn’t bother to wake him to go. No gym this day.

Tuesday
My dad was in town needing a ride while his truck was in the shop so we didn’t make it to yoga. I did make it to Crossfit in the evening though!

Strength
Power Clean – 75% 4×5 – I rolled with 65#

WOD (WM)
- 9 Deadlifts @ 70% 1RM
- 100m run
- 6 Deadlifts
- 200m run
- 3 Deadlifts
- 400m run

I can’t remember exactly what I used for the deadlift. I think it was around 100-105# but I forgot to record that. This was a good workout. It was quick, I finished in 5:36.

Thursday

Strength
Deadlift – 85% 5×3 – I threw some 45′s on the bar for a total weight of 135#. It felt heavy which it should. I really want to retest my deadlift 1RM but it seems all our lifts lately are cleans and snatches.

WOD (WG)
10 rounds:
- 3 Back Squats @ 60%
- 50% Push ups
- 30% K2E or Sit ups

I used 85# for the back squat, and at the recommendation from Coach Melea, did 5 pushups and 2 K2E. I probably could have upped my reps on those though because I finished really quick in 7:42. My K2E are really coming along, I can actually get my knees up there now! I just still feel like my body swings too much so I always stop and reset myself between reps. I hope soon I can nail a toes to bar. I’m so close.

That’s it for fitness for the week, it’s not much but it’s better than nothing. Hopefully I can get a run or two in this weekend. (Don’t forget to share with me for #SundayRunday!) I usually buy a three times a week monthly membership since it’s cheaper but I know I missed out on a lot of classes this past month so I think its best if I just get a punch pass. You never know what comes up with little ones. I’m really worrying about what will happen when I go back to work and how I will be able to make it to Crossfit.

I have to share with you the new Crossfit App I downloaded. It’s called MyWOD (I can’t remember how much it cost but if it cost anything it was no more than like $1.99). You can track all your WODs, all your max weights, it has all the benchmark workouts, Crossfit Open workouts, Hero WODs, as well as road WODs. You can customize so much and it will even graph your progress. I previously tracked everything in a WOD book I bought at the box but I found it so hard to go back and see what weights you did, what your 1RM’s are, etc. This eliminates the few minutes spent flipping through your book trying to find what you need. I’m a fan.
