I feel like my Workout Wednesday posts are getting kind of boring lately. I’m still trucking along the best I can though.
So last Thursday’s WOD finally didn’t include running! I was beyond excited for that. We started off with 3 rounds of 3 snatches at 35lbs. Snatches are probably the hardest Olympic lift EVER but they are so much more difficult with a watermelon belly. I’m sure my technique sucks but I truck through them regardless. The WOD was 10 rounds, 30% pullups, 30% dips, 30% sit ups, 30% squats. This takes a bit of calculating to determine how many reps to do. Basically you take your max reps and figure out what that number is 30% of, then divide by three to get how many reps per round. I just estimated my max’s because I only knew squats. I ended up doing 1 pullup, 6 bench dips, 5 sit ups and 16 squats per round. I finished in 14:30. Sit ups are basically impossible, even butterfly style so next time they come up in a WOD I’ll be finding an alternative. It’s crazy how much more difficult everything is getting!
Of course I didn’t manage to do anything else until Tuesday. I blame a busy extra long weekend, and heat.
Tuesday’s WOD was ok. Started with deadlifts. 5 rounds of 4, I did 85lbs again, no biggie. The WOD was 21 Sumo Dead Light High Pulls (I used 25lb kettlebell), 30% knee to elbow (2 per round for me), 200 m run, 15 SDHP, 30% knee to elbow, 200m run, 9 SDHP, 30% knee to elbow, 200m run. The SDHP felt great but I suck at the knees to elbow and of course the running was brutal. But I finished in 7:45.
I’m still missing yoga and of course have not made time to fit in any of my own stretching. I’m the worst. I need to leave my house and go to a class to actually get something accomplished.
Are you good at working out at home on your own or do you prefer going to a class for motivation?

It has to be a class for me. I’m usually not too bad about stretching at home, and have been making a point of walking to and from the university and/or downtown whenever possible, but for yoga, there’s something about the studio space that focuses and grounds me, and the energy of other people in the class (hearing a deep ujjayi breath reminds me to breathe through my poses) really helps me find my center and gives me a boost of energy.
