Music Monday + Weekend Recap

2-in-1 baby! Both of these will be short and sweet though.

My weekend consisted of a nap Friday night to sleep off some of the foul mood and crappy week at work I had. Since it was so gorgeous out I decided I shouldn’t sleep and be grouchy all night so I rounded up Cassandra for a trip to the Little Ice Cream and Soda Shop for some ice cream. I hoped they had the Nibs flavor so I could rub it in to my cousin Kevin (he lives in Calgary, it’s his favorite kind AND it was his birthday) but they didn’t so I stuck with my other two favorite flavors, cake batter and tiger.

I spent the rest of the evening at my OTHER best friend Dax’s house watching Despicable Me. I seriously love that show and can’t wait for the sequel to come out.

Then Saturday morning Layne and I were off to Calgary for my cousin Heather’s wedding. It would be his first time meeting the extended family, all of them together at once, poor guy. The wedding was held at the Carriage House, and the hotel did a very beautiful job with the decor for the ceremony. Since there was time to kill before the reception the fam hung out at the lounge and had a couple drinks and appies before going to the cocktail reception. There they were serving mini sliders, mini hot dogs, grilled cheese sandwiches and very delicious potatoes with truffle oil. Mmm so good. The dinner was a buffet and also had amazing food. The scalloped potatoes were my favorite, I couldn’t get over how delicious they were. It was a very beautiful wedding and I’m happy I could be there to share with my cousin and her now husband. They’ve been together for over ten years and I hope to see them live a happy life as husband and wife. Congrats you two!

Unfortunately I didn’t feel like carting around my purse and phone/camera so I have no pictures to share.

Now for Music Monday! A new album that was released last week that I have been loving is The Gaslight Anthem’s fourth album, Handwritten. If you’ve never heard of the New Jersey band, I highly suggest checking them out, especially if you are a fan of raspy, punk infused rock and roll. Or Bruce Springsteen, since that’s the bands biggest influence. They are a good band to listen to for a long drive, or a rainy day.

(Not from their newest album, but one of my favorite songs)
What is your favorite road trip album/band?
Have you been to any weddings this summer?
Weddings seem to take up a lot of people’s summers, but I really haven’t been to many in my days (yet). I had my best friend’s wedding last year, and my cousin’s wedding this year and before that I hadn’t been to one since I was a kid!
