The Silversun Pickups were an unknown band to me until I was asked to go to the Muse concert a couple years ago where they were the opening act. I gave them a quick listen before the concert and decided they were decent. I downloaded both of the Carnavas and Swoon albums on iTunes and thoroughly enjoyed their live performance.
They recently released their third album, Neck of the Woods, in May which I just got around to downloading. It’s become my staple over the past couple of weeks. With a sound comparable to 90′s alt-rockers The Smashing Pumpkins, The Silversun Pickups provide a soundtrack perfect for relaxing around the house or hitting the trains for some cardio. Singer Brian Aubert’s voice is so melodic he could sing me to sleep, but the backing guitars can pump you up something fierce at the same time. It’s an interesting mixture and it works.
If you’re looking for something new in the world of rock, I highly recommend checking out some Silversun Pickups. They are playing at this year’s X-Fest in Calgary which I really want to go to. Problem is finding someone that wants to go to an all day, outdoor music festival with an 8 month pregnant girl…
